Top 5 Christmas Rap Songs
Christmas music has been around forever. Sure, Boys II Men, Bing Crosby, Nat King Cole, Mariah Carey and even The Trans-Siberian Orchestra all have wonderful holiday music. But what if you need something with a little more edge and less something you hear in an elevator. Well Hip-Hop has been making Christmas music since its inception. Kurtis Blow, Treacherous Tree and The Juice Crew all had early holiday music for us. It hasn’t let up either as Kanye, DMX, Ludacris and Ying Yang Twins have spread some holiday cheer through their music in recent years. Lets revisit my Top 5 Christmas Rap songs!!
5. Eazy E – Merry Muthafuckin’ Xmas
“Merry Muthafuckin Christmas!! And have a fucked up new year!” Eazy E offers his holiday wishes the best way he knows how on 1992’s “Merry Muthafuckin’s Xmas”. This is a hilarious parody of all of our Christmas favorites by the godfather of gangsta rap, Easy-E. What’s a holiday song without tons of pornography and violence. I wouldn’t put this on in front of your grandmother, mine sure didn’t appreciate this classic.

4. Kanye West – Christmas In Harlem ft Big Sean, Cyhi The Prynce, Pusha T, Cam’Ron and Jim Jones
Kanye West put together the monster “Christmas In Harlem”. Not only did his G.O.O.D Music brethren, Big Sean, Cyhi The Prynce and Pusha T show up, but Dipsets Capo’s, Cam’Ron and Jim Jones came through to discuss their shopping sprees on the extended version. Then the beautiful Teyana Taylor joined the party and slayed the hell out of this hook. This was released in 2010, and has found its way on my playlist every year since. It’s the only Christmas song I listen to year round.

3. Cold Chillin’ Christmas featuring Big Daddy Kane, Roxanne Shante, and MC Shan
1988 was the year the mighty Juice Crew decided to take over the holidays. “Cold Chillin Christmas” featured Big Daddy Kane, Roxanne Shante, and MC Shan all in their prime as they kicked some rhymes about their favorite holiday. Kane had two verses and you can tell at first listen, they had a lot of fun making this record. The Booker T & M.G.’s sample may be familiar. The late great Heavy D used the same beat on his posse cut “Don’t Curse.”

2. Rev Run ft. Ma$e, Puff Daddy, Snoop Dogg, Salt N Pepa, Onyx & Keith Murray – Santa Baby
Ever wonder what the hyper sound of Onyx would sound like on a Christmas song? “Santa Baby” dropped in 1997 and featured them along with a host of other rappers. Ma$e and Puff Daddy decided not to floss on this one and described their Christmas as kids. Snoop drops by with his smooth flow, while the gritty and grimey Onyx is the exact opposite and appears toward the end. Keith Murray, Salt N Pepa, and a hyper Rev Run all contribute. What sounds like a motley crew of guests all come together courtesy of the buttery smooth sounds of The Fugee’s “Nappy Heads” in the background. The video featured only half the emcees, but showcased the most excited kid in music video history.

1. Run-DMC – Christmas In Hollis
I bet my second child and my entire Redman & AZ catalogues that you won’t find a better hip hop Christmas song than “Christmas In Hollis”. Run rhymes about Santa’s gift of a mill and DMC’s rhymes about his Christmas menu over a jazzy backdrop. The video was hilarious starting with a mischievous elf who only spoke 2 words and ended with him getting chased around by a broom wielding DMC’s mom
