Smut Peddlers – Porn Again

Smut Peddlers – Porn Again

After the relative underground success of  their debut album  “Home Field Advantage,” the duo known as The High & Mighty (Mr. Eon & DJ Mighty Mi) left Rawkus Records to embark on a radically different version of Hip-Hop and formed the group Smut Peddlers.

Joining them on their “Porn Again” sexscapades was independent rapper Cage in a possibly dodgy outing that turned out nothing like it. What came out of the mix was a gritty, head-nodding album of moody, boastful rhymes and thumping hardcore beats. Far superior than it’s 3 Mic rating in what was a ridiculous rating from The Source.

Possibly they were misunderstood for what they were aiming for, but these three whiteboys produced a tight, slamming album that stimulated without being completely orgasmic. It stands up well with closer (um) inspection on future listens and has a lot to recommend it. When Eon says “My chicken meets your monkey so now we’re making zoo porn,” you just know this is brilliantly tongue in cheek fun.

“That Smut”

The lyrics are dope, but the beats by Mighty Mi pulverize you and bang hard against a lot of so-called “classics.” Mi did a fantastic job and is a very underrated beatsmith. Tracks like “Smut Council” and “Medicated Minutes.” “Talk Like Sex pt. 2” features a great appearance of a refreshing Kool G Rap, and really knocks and kicks-off shit exactly the way you want. It continues it’s rollicking, debauched journey with “That Smut,” “Anti Hero’s,” and hits with the old school ode “My Rhyme Ain’t Done.” Porn Again finishes with the twisted “Bottom Feeders.”

Bottom Feeders” featuring RA The Rugged Man

Guest features from Copywrite, Kool Keith & RA The Rugged Man can’t hurt. The end product is a very satisfying and well-rounded product from a group that lasted only one album, but could’ve continued on with more slamming salami!!! Oh and you can’t forget little comedy dwarf Beetlejuice with the intro, outro and interlude duties along with being surrounded by babes on the cool LP cover.

Filthy, dirty, dusty but never degrading this “Porn” thing isn’t bad at all.
