Slum Village – “Push It Along” Ft. Phife Dawg
Slum Village (a hip hop group from Conant Gardens, Detroit, Michigan)
formed in the 1999 with the 3 primary members: Baatin, T3 and J Dilla. J Dilla left the group in 2002 to pursue his solo career and later passed away February 10th, 2006 at age 32 from a blood disease called thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) and Lupus. T3 brought in Elzhi to join the group after J Dilla left and the 2 became very well known for their work together. Baatin left the group in July 2009 after he began to have medical problems which interfered with the group. He was later diagnosed with depression, schizophrenia and bipolar tendencies. He passed away on August 1st, 2009 which was ruled an accidental death involving cocaine abuse. Elzhi left soon thereafter in July 2010 to pursue his solo career and T3 says he has not talked to him since he left the group. What remains of Slum Village has been working with producer “Young RJ” Rice on the album “Yes” which is due out June 16th, 2015. The album is made with unused J Dilla beats and has been highly talked about in the Hip Hop community as one of the most anticipated albums set to come out in 2015. “Push It Along” is produced by Young RJ, and features Phife Dawg alongside Slum Village’s Baatin and T3 and has an older hip hop vibe to it with 80’s-era breaks. The track does not disappoint and let’s just hope that the release date doesn’t get pushed back like so many others have.
