Pete Rock – “Soul Survivor” Album Anniversary

Pete Rock released his first solo album “Soul Survivor” on November 10, 1998.  The album is littered with guest appearance on almost every song that include Kurupt, Heavy D, and Method Man.  The album is of course produced by Pete Rock himself.

Some of the highlights include “Tru Master” that features Inspectah Deck and Kurupt with their perfect balance of east coast and west coast flavor, and “Half Man Half Amazing” that features Method Man doing what he does best, and that’s bless the mic. Big Pun, Noreaga and Common also lend a hand on the appropriately title cut “Verbal Murder 2”.

Other dope cuts include the posse cut “Tha Game” that includes verses from Raekwon, Prodigy and Ghostface Killa, and the remake of the Kool G Rap classic “Truly Yours” that besides Kool G Rap includes verses from Large Professor and Pete Rock.

But the highlight of the show has to be the Pete Rock and CL Smooth cut “Da Two” where both sound like they did when they recorded “Mecca and the Soul Brother” with CL line,

“In the last days when critical times are left
To deal with my grand daddy’s endeavors
What corrected my errors the first shot came in 91
E.P. done my struggle to label this untouchable foundation
Due in 92 top ten review, respect new when that flew
They ‘Reminisce Over You'”

It is just too bad that we only get treated to one cut of one of the greatest duos in Hip Hop history.  Who knows what they would of brought us if they would of given us 2-3 more albums.  The Hip Hop world can only dream!
