Del The Funky Homosapien – “I Wish My Brother George Was Here” Album Anniversary

Del dropped his debut album “I Wish My Brother George Was Here” on October 22nd 1991.  Del is known his complex raps and is also Ice Cube’s cousin.  The album reached as high as #48 on the Billboard Rap Charts and was produced by DJ Pooh, Ice Cube and Del Himself.  “Mistadobalina” was the lead single and caught people’s eyes and especially ears with a catchy hook.  “Dr Bombay” and “Sleepin On My Couch” were the other 2 singles but shined on tracks like “Rapid Transit” were he tells us the hazards of riding the public bus.  He also shines on “Dark Skin Girls” where he pledges his love to the ladies with darker than regular skin.  On “Pissing On Your Steps” he disses all those rappers that “sellout” and make Hip Pop not Hip Hop records.  He throws a “certain” fellow bay area rapper under the bus with,
“Now what ya gonna do with the board with no talent
Using step one and step two to keep the show valid
Let’s have a vote and try to register our ballots
And realize a Hammer’s just a mallet”
His intro might be slept on by a lot of Hip Hop fans, yet it bangs to this day.  Don’t get caught up on the idea that underground artists from the bay area all sound alike.  Del makes it clear, he’s not like everyone else!
