D.I.T.C. – Diggin’ In The Crates Crew- Album Anniversary : The New York based crew Diggin’ in the Crates, or D.I.T.C. as we know them, formed in 1990. All of the members hail from the Bronx except for Big L who’s from Harlem, and O.C. who’s from Brooklyn. The rappers representing the Bronx are Showbiz, A.G., Diamond D, Fat Joe, Lord Finesse & Buckwild. The debut album from the group titled “D.I.T.C.” dropped under Tommy Boy Records on February 22, 2000 which was just 7 days after Big L’s death. Track #15 “Tribute” was produced by Ahmed and has verses from O.C., A.G, and Lord Finesse that pays homage to the fallen group member. The album starts off with an immediate banger produced by DJ Premier called “Thick” and has a verse from A.G first, then Big L, and O.C. last.
The Second track “Get Yours” was produced by Showbiz and released as a single with verses from Big L, O.C. and Diamond D. Track # 3 “Where Ya At” features guests Big Pun & Milano along with verses from Big L, O.C. and Diamond D. This track was not included on the European version of the album but the Euro version did have an exclusive bonus track “Time to Get This Money”. The 4th track “Way of Life” features Armageddon on the chorus and was produced by Buckwild. Fat Joe and Big L alone throw down verses on this track.
“Day One” is track # 5 and another one of the singles off the album. It has a verse from Diamond D and was also produced by him. Other DITC artists to toss down on this jam are Big L, A.G., Lord Finesse, Fat Joe & O.C.. Track # 9 is a premo mix of Big L’s hit single “Ebonics” and puts a different spin on the timeless hit. The next track called “Drop it Heavy” was produced by Showbiz and features KRS-One & Big Pun alongside A.G.. “Da Enemy” is another DJ Premier joint which has Big L & Fat Joe going verse for verse. “Thick” comes back for a second dose on track # 14 which was remixed and produced by Rockwilder. The album made it up to #31 on the Top R&B/Hip Hop Albums on the Billboard charts and went all the way to #5 on the Top Heatseakers chart. Sadly the crew disbanded in 2011 due to musical differences.
